Toulouse vs Rennes Predictions
- Toulouse have lost 16 of their last 17 matches in all competitions with a 0-0 draw against 19th place Amiens the only letup in this awful run of form.
- Les Violets have failed to score in each of their last six games.
- Rennes are winless in their last three away games with just one scored in this time but they have conceded the least goals away from home in Ligue 1 this season.
Rennes In The Driving Seat For Third
The race for third is starting to hot up as the season begins to enter its final twelve games. Lille sit on 43 points with Monaco, Strasbourg and Lyon all in the mix but it’s currently Rennes who are in the driving seat with 44 points. They got a massive win last week to keep them in that place as they beat ten-man Nîmes with a goal in the 89th minute.
It wasn’t pretty but it was a crucial win to get Rennes back on track following their defeat to Reims the week prior. Julien Stéphan’s men will be the away side for this one but that may hold them back as they are winless in their last three on the road with two losses and a draw in the league. They haven’t been attacking with the same degree of success recently on the road with just four goals scored in their last six away games, this should be a cause for concern considering that they struggled in the final third against 18th placed Nîmes last week.
Toulouse Finding It Hard Not To Lose
You can rarely find a team in worse condition than Toulouse. Les Violets have lost 16 of their last 17 matches in all competitions with a single draw against 19th placed Amiens their only reprieve in this awful run of form. They’ve had three different managers this season with reserve coach Denis Zanko the latest to have taken the reigns.
There have been some improvements under the Frenchman but that all seemed to come crashing down last week as they were pummelled 3-0 by Lille. Toulouse barely created anything of note with just one shot on target compared to the opponents’ nine.
It was Toulouse’s sixth match in a row with them not scoring and this has been a common trait for les Violets even at home this season. They’ve netted five goals in their last seven games but two of these were scored by defenders, one came from the penalty spot and the other was put in by Anthony Lopes as he dropped it into his own net for Lyon. In this time Toulouse have conceded 16 goals so you can see why they are where they are on the table.
Rennes To Edge This One?
Despite Rennes’ rather lax away form as of late, they have conceded the least goals on the road and with Toulouse looking absolutely incapable of scoring a good goal, we see the away side winning with a clean sheet here. The visitors haven’t been in incredible scoring form in the last few weeks though so we’re backing them to win 1-0.
