      Colombia vs Peru Predictions

Colombia were one of the most entertaining sides at the last World Cup and really caught public imagination across the world. The goals have dried up for them of late though and there was only 2 goals in the 4 matches involving them at Copa America although they did manage to beat Brazil and took Argentina to a penalty shoot-out in the Quarter Final.

On home soil and against Peru, the onus will be on them to attack the game and we should see a more fluid display from the Colombians here. They are missing James Rodriguez due to injury which is clearly a blow but they have some clinical finishers to rely on in the shape of Radamel Falcao, Jackson Martinez and Carlos Bacca.

It was Bacca who scored the goal when Colombia drew 1-1 with Peru in a friendly last month and the AC Milan striker certainly helped stake his claim for a starting position here but otherwise we shouldn’t really read too much into that game with neither side wanting to give too much away ahead of this crucial competitive clash.

The two sides met at Copa America too but again a drab 0-0 affair in the final group game which was enough for both teams to progress will have little bearing on this game. Peru impressed at the tournament, finishing in 3rd place and can come into this qualifying campaign with some confidence.

They were one of the more entertaining sides to watch at Copa America, scoring in all their 5 games other than the Colombia clash, the only time they’ve failed to net in their last 9 fixtures. Despite scoring 2 goals on 3 occasions away from home in the last World Cup qualifying campaign, their defence let them down and they only picked up 1 point on the road, which left them with far too much to do back in Lima.

They are unlikely to suddenly veer from a fairly positive mentality here and with Colombia likely to take the game to them, we should see goals and it’s worth backing there to be over 2.5 goals at 11/10.

Peru should make a good go of it but you have to fancy Colombia extra’s quality to ultimately shine through on home soil and at 14/1 you can back them to win this 2-1.
