Sky Blues to open with a victory

Coventry City fell at the play-offs for the second time in three seasons last year, but Frank Lampard’s side should get off to a winning start against Hull on Saturday.

Lampard took charge of the Sky Blues in November, transforming a side mired in 17th place to pick up 52 points and finish in fifth.

They won seven of their final eight home games in the regular season and kept a clean sheet in five of those victories, and they are justified favourites against a Hull side that may struggle this season.

The Tigers finished 21st in the table, and new manager Sregej Jakirovic has been hampered by a transfer embargo this summer. They picked up just one point from their final three away games last term and lost here in December, so another defeat is on the cards.

They did only concede six goals in their final seven trips, though, and their last two road defeats have been 1-0 scorelines, so it could be a low-scoring victory for the hosts.
