Crewe vs Charlton Predictions

  • Both teams have failed to score in Crewe’s last three home league games
  • Both teams have failed to score in four of the last five Charlton away league games.
  • Both teams have failed to score in five of the last six head-to-head meetings.

Charlton missing strikers and chances going begging

Crewe will sense an opportunity to land three vital points in their bid to avoid relegation when a goal-shy Charlton Athletic side visit Mornflake Stadium on Wednesday.

The Addicks aren’t scoring enough goals at the moment and, although they outperformed Premier League Norwich City in the FA Cup last weekend, they still came away without anything to show for it. Charlton have found the net just once in the last four outings in all competitions and appear to be struggling to finish off any chances without leading strikers Jayden Stockley and Conor Washington, who are now both suffering from injuries.

Defensively, they are in much better shape than Crewe though with the Railwaymen having been hit for four by both Rotherham and Burton in their last two outings.David Artell’s side do score goals and have managed to score at least twice in five of their last six home games in League One and EFL Trophy action.

Railwaymen trip to provide relief for Addicks

But we don’t rate their chances of scoring against Johnnie Jackson’s side too highly, given the Addicks have kept clean sheets at Sunderland and Burton fairly recently. Both teams have failed to score in four of the last five Charlton away league games and in the last three Crewe home league fixtures, so the stats seem right to risk that bet again at an odds against price.

Both teams have also failed to score in five of the last six head-to-head meetings, albeit some of those were many moons ago. A 1-0 Charlton win looks good in correct score betting because, although Jackson’s men have hit a lean spell, they haven’t faced a defence as bad as Crewe’s in recent times.
