Crystal Palace vs Swansea Predictions
Both of these sides endured a torrid first half to the season, and in both clubs’ cases it resulted in at least one manager departure. Alan Pardew was sacked over the Christmas period and replaced by dethroned England boss Sam Allardyce, whilst Swansea have sacked both Francesco Guidolin and Bob Bradley already this term.
It’s no surprise either given the clubs standings in the table and their recent form. At home Crystal Palace have lost five and won one of their last six games, whilst Swansea are winless since the opening day of the season away from home. They have lost seven and drawn one of their eight trips away since then.
Despite the shocking overall performance of these two teams, their attacking capabilities can’t be underestimated. This was shown to full effect when the two met at the Liberty Stadium earlier this season. A quite frankly ridiculous closing stage to the match saw Swansea win 5-4 in the game of the season so far, and it will be a tough one to beat from a neutral perspective.
Overall, Crystal Palace have seen 25 goals in their nine home games this season, whilst Swansea have seen 28 in their nine away games. Unfortunately for the visitors 21 of these have been conceded goals, so the Palace attackers will feel confident about bagging a few on Tuesday.
At the other end of the pitch Crystal Palace have Sam Allardyce to fall back on. The former England manager tends to build from the back when he takes over teams, and that showed on Sunday as they only conceded two away to Arsenal. Having such a wealth of experience at their disposal tips the scales in the hosts’ favour in my eyes.
Christian Benteke is the man they will turn to in the attacking department. The former Liverpool striker has bagged eight league goals this season and is by far their biggest threat, so backing him to score anytime looks a good option for our goalscorer predictions.
A few weeks ago this match would have been a mouth watering prospect for the neutrals, but with new managers taking the reins the focus will undoubtedly be on solidifying two of the three leakiest defences in the table. Sam Allardyce especially will be focusing on trying to tighten things up at the back.
Allardyce is accomplished at avoiding relegation in these situations. He did it last season with Sunderland and I expect him to do the same with Crystal Palace this term. As such I think they can take advantage of Swansea’s tragic away record and get the win, so I’m backing that at 3/4 along with a 2-1 correct score predictions at 8/1.
