Dinamo chase group place

After making it through to the group stage of  last season’s Champions League, Dinamo Zagreb enter this year’s qualifiers searching for a return to Europe’s top tournament.

The Croatian side have been dominant domestically in recent years, which has seen them enter this competition every year bar one since 2006. They’ve made it to the playoff round in four of the last five seasons, so they have plenty of experience to fall back on ahead on Tuesday’s clash with Astana.

Hosts to edge high-scoring clash

Dinamo returned to league action at the weekend, losing to Hajduk Split a week after beating them in the Croatian Super Cup. Defensive issues have plagued them in the build-up to this campaign and they conceded in their final three preseason games before their 2-1 loss at the weekend.

While Dinamo should prove too strong for the visitors, the away side does have a slight edge in that their domestic campaign is up and running and they’ve come through two qualifying games already. Astana saw both teams score in each leg of their clash with Dinamo Tbilisi and more goals look to be on the way here.

Astana have seen both teams score in four of their last five games in this competition, while they were beaten home and away by Dinamo back in 2018. Back the hosts to secure another win, but the visitors should have enough quality to get a goal.
