Dundee vs Dundee United Predictions

Dundee missed out on the chance to take part in the top half of the Scottish Premiership split when they finished 6th in the table a couple of weeks ago, but their consolation prize is an opportunity to stick the knife in to their oldest and most intense rivals.

Dundee United come into this game at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership with just 24 points from their 34 games so far. They are eight points adrift of the relegation playoff position with just 12 points left to play for, which means that a defeat on Monday could confirm relegation from the Scottish top flight. Dundee FC will be desperately hoping that Kilmarnock can get a win at Hamilton on Saturday to allow them the chance to send their rivals down into the Championship.

Dundee managed to get a win last weekend at Partick Thistle, a result which made their record a fairly decent two wins, two draws, and one defeat in their last five outings. This includes a 2-2 draw at Dundee United, a 5-2 win against Ross County, and a goalless draw at home to Celtic.

Dundee United are in less impressive form. Their 3-1 defeat to Hamilton Academical last weekend made it four games without a win for them. Three of these have been straight up defeats, with the other one being a penalty defeat against Hibernian in the Scottish FA Cup semi final, an elimination that took away all prospect of achievement this season.

This visit to their rivals is now their cup final, and they will know that a victory against Dundee will boost their fans’ spirits for a short while and provide them with some dignity if they are to be relegated. Of course, a win could throw the relegation battle open again.

The hosts certainly have an advantage as far as quality and form goes, and the atmosphere at Dens Park isn’t easy for the visiting team at the best of times, let alone when you are their biggest rivals. Dundee have won six of their last ten home games as well and only lost once, so odds of 11/8 for a Dundee Win look excellent value for money. I’m going for a tight 2-1 win at 8/1 as well.
