Dynamo Dresden vs Eintracht Braunschweig Predictions

Last Saturday’s 0-0 draw away to the in-form FC Heidenheim, who extended their streak to 7 matches unbeaten in the 2. Bundesliga, was a well earned point for the “newly promoted” Dynamo Dresden. Still carrying the momentum from their sensational 5:0 win at home to Bundesliga-relegated side VfB Stuttgart a week back, Dresden came out with all guns blazing and were definitely the better side all-around. Dynamo had more possession and attempts on goal come the full time whistle and were ultimately unlucky to leave Heidenheim with just a point. Confidence should be high after taking 4 points (W1 D1) from two matches against teams within the top four, but hosting league leaders Eintracht Braunschweig is amongst the hardest fixtures of the season.

Eintracht Braunschweig remain top of the table and are now a huge five points ahead of 2nd place Union Berlin, after their 1-0 win at home to the out-of-form Greuther Furth last Sunday. Braunschweig, once again, did just enough to take away all three points, but weren’t as clinical as they should have been, converting just one of their 23 attempts on goal. Braunschweig had to rely on midfielder Onel Hernandez, who scored his second of the season, to give them the lead mid-way through the second half. Braunschweig should no doubt fancy their chances come Friday, given their form and recent track record against Dresden.

Eintracht Braunschweig are slight favourites with the bookies ahead of this match, at 8/5 – reasonable odds alone for a side who sit 5 points top and have taken three wins and a draw from their last 4 matches. Odds made even more reasonable by the head-to-head analysis which indicates Dresden will have a hard time here: Dresden haven’t beaten Braunschweig at home in any of the seven meetings since 2003. Braunschweig have won or drawn in 12 of the 16 total meetings between them (W6 D6 L4) and given that Braunschweig are in the best form the side has seen in years, we feel the odds on them are too decent to pass on. As such, Eintracht Braunschweig draw no bet at 5/6 seems the best value bet at the lowest risk.

Furthermore, Braunschweig have averaged 2 goals per match so far this season and have scored exactly 2 goals in four of the last 6 meetings against Dresden, winning 2-1 twice. Given Dresden have only failed to score once in their last 11 home matches, we feel it’s reasonable to see them getting themselves at least a consolation goal here too. Based on this reasoning, both teams to score at 4/6 would also be a viable bet. Following these statistics, Braunschweig to win 2-1 at 9/1 with bet365 seems a decent correct score bet.
