Eintracht Frankfurt vs Borussia Dortmund Predictions

With back-to-back wins against Mainz 05 and Darmstadt 98, Eintracht Frankfurt have kept themselves afloat and in the survival fight. Frankfurt are currently in the relegation play-off spot, ahead of second-from-bottom VfB Stuttgart by goal difference only. Eintracht Frankfurt may have given themselves some hope after a long stretch of poor form, but difficult fixtures await them to end the season, firstly against giants Borussia Dortmund on Saturday and then a huge relegation “six pointer” against Werder Bremen on the closing day of the season. Eintracht have also finally ended their “goal drought”, scoring two goals in both of their last two, they hadn’t scored two in a match before this since early February. It seems Frankfurt may have found a solution to the absence of veteran striker Alex Meier, who remains their top scorer with 12 goals despite missing the past nine matches.

With Bayern Munich drawing to Borussia M’gladbach last weekend, Borussia Dortmund continue their chase on a mathmatically possible ninth Bundesliga title following their 5-1 win against Wolfsburg on the same day. Though the odds of leaders Bayern Munich surrendering their current five-point advantage are slim, especially with only two matches left in the season, Borussia Dortmund have at least secured themselves a chance of silverware by qualifying for the DFB Cup final against, none other than, top of the league Bayern Munich after their 3-0 win over Werder Bremen in the semi-final a few weeks back.

Borussia Dortmund are huge favourites for a reason, they are the second most in-form side in the Bundesliga (W4 D1) and are unbeaten in their last fifteen in the league (W12 D3). Eintracht Frankfurt may have finally found some form but Borussia Dortmund is a huge yellow wall standing in their way on the path to survival. If Bayern Munich had won the match and the title last weekend, Dortmund, who already have 2nd placed locked down, would have nothing more to play for and would possibly rest players or experiment alternate lineups before the upcoming DFB Cup final. As it stands, however, Borussia Dortmund are likely to give it everything in the hope that Bayern Munich somehow choke against FC Ingolstadt next Saturday. Dortmund also have a great track record against Eintracht Frankfurt, which seems unlikely to change given the stark contrasts in form and league standings. Combining these form trends with the statistics below, we expect Borussia Dortmund to do their best to keep Bayern Munich sweating and win this match with over 2.5 goals scored total. Borussia Dortmund to win 3-1 at 9/1 and tally on another for their most common away result also seems decent value.
