Eintracht Frankfurt vs Hertha Berlin Predictions

Eintracht Frankfurt, who one place higher than Hertha Berlin on goal difference alone, are enjoying their best start to a Bundesliga campaign in years, taking nine points from their opening four fixtures. Last season’s 16th placed finish is clearly a distant memory and Frankfurt are playing with much more confidence and a completely different mindset than they ended last season. Frankfurt had no trouble bouncing back from a demoralising and against the run of play 1-0 away defeat to Hessen derby rivals Darmstadt. Last weekend they overthrew giants Bayer Leverkusen with a 2-1 win at home and showed no signs of slowing down in their “English week” fixture on Tuesday. Goals from David Abraham and Bastian Oczipka either side of half-time were enough to efficiently see off opponents Ingolstadt in a 2-0 win away from home.

Hertha’s bittersweet end to their 2015/2016 campaign, where their eventual 7th placed finish overshadowed their prior twenty-week-long stint within the top four, has clearly not knocked their confidence coming into the new season. Hertha’s quick exit from the UEFA Europa League in the third qualifying round against Brondby meant their sole focus was on the Bundesliga come the opening match. Hertha were one of just two sides to take the maximum nine points from their first three fixtures, alongside Bayern Munich, who were their opponents on Wednesday. The reigning champions have been simply flawless this season and the Berliners stood little chance on their trip to the Allianz Arena. Hertha registered just 29% possession and only two shots on target, both of which came from outside the penalty box. The Bavarian’s masterclass performance and Hertha’s eventual 3-0 defeat is no doubt likely to knock their confidence.

Eintracht Frankfurt come into this as slight favourites for the bookies and we find decent value in their price of 7/5 for the home win. While this will certainly be no easy win for Frankfurt, Berlin’s growing injury list, which now includes star striker Salomon Kalou and core centre back John Anthony Brookes, does not do the visitors any favours. Also, not only did Hertha’s confidence take a blow in the demoralising defeat at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, but their relatively poor form on the road in the Bundesliga doesn’t help their cause – Hertha have lost five of their last seven away matches (W1 D1 L5). Meanwhile, Frankfurt are enjoying the benefits of their incredible form at the Commerzbank Arena. Eintracht have lost just one of their last nine matches at home (W5 D3 L1) and come into this match off the back of four consecutive Bundesliga home wins against Bayer Leverkusen, Schalke 04, Borussia Dortmund, and Mainz. Even Bayern Munich would be ecstatic to take away four wins from this level of opponents.

As such, Eintracht Frankfurt to win at 7/5 and Eintracht Frankfurt to win 1-0 at 6/1 with bet365 are our choice bets for this match.
