Empoli vs AC Milan Predictions

AC Milan to win at 3/5 –

AC Milan to win 2-0 at 13/2 – ☆☆

  • Empoli have only won one of their eight games in all competitions this season – at Bologna last time out.
  • AC Milan, by contrast, have only been beaten by Serie A leaders Napoli in their nine outings this term.
  • Milan have won four of their last seven games in all competitions, including victories over Inter Milan and Dinamo Zagreb.

Milan look to bounce back

AC Milan suffered their first defeat in nine outings this campaign last time out, as Giovanni Simeone’s late header ensured Napoli made a statement of their Scudetto credentials at San Siro. Stefano Pioli’s men created 2.8 expected goals (xG) in that match, however, and have won four of their last seven games. They should be confident of bouncing back on Saturday’s trip to Empoli.

Indeed, Milan – according to xG – have been Serie A’s joint-third best attacking outfit and second-strongest defensive unit this term, a solid start for the Scudetto holders. Pioli’s men have been held to three frustrating draws on the road this term, but trips to Atalanta, Sassuolo and RB Salzburg were all more daunting than their next contest. Inter Milan and Dinamo Zagreb have been seen off by Milan in their last five games, and they should be too strong for Empoli.

Empoli’s win at Bologna last time out eased some of the pressure that was beginning to grow on Paolo Zanetti – though he has picked up four draws from his first seven league games at the helm. However, Empoli have won just three of their last 28 league games in a dismal run which stretches back to last December, and look hard-pushed to test a Milan side which did the double over them last term.

Rossoneri set for away win

Given Empoli’s dire form over the last 10 months and Milan’s promising start to the campaign, backing the Rossoneri for an away win seems the most prudent play for Saturday’s game.

Meanwhile, Empoli have limited five of their last seven games to under 2.5 match goals, and though they may do so again, Milan can leave Tuscany with a routine 2-0 win.
