Energetik-BGU vs FK Gorodeya Predictions
- Energetik-BGU’s last three games have all seen fewer than three goals scored.
- All of Gorodeya’s four Belarus Premier League outings this season have seen under 2.5 goals land.
- Gorodeya have lost two of their last three away games by 1-0 scorelines.
Surprise package Energetik’s winning ways come to an end
Energetik-BGU’s perfect start to the Belarus Premier League season came to an abrupt end at the weekend as they were bested by Torpedo Zhodino away from home, with a quick double in the early stages of the second half resigning them to their first dropped points of the season.
This followed on from an excellent start to the campaign which saw last season’s 12th place finishers dispatch of Belarusian heavyweights BATE, Rukh Brest and FC Minsk.
It might have been the end of one run but it marked the continuation of a different streak, and it’s a surprising one. Energetik have now seen just five goals scored in their last three matches, which is a massive shift when you consider that their league matches last season averaged a huge 3.93 goals per game.
Goalshy Gorodeya showing signs of improvement
Gorodeya are no strangers to tight affairs either. The visitors saw just 60 goals scored in their 30 league games last season, and nothing they have done this season suggests a switch to a more goal-friendly system.
In fact, Gorodeya have seen only five goals scored in their four top flight matches so far, and only two of those have gone in their favour. It goes without saying that all of these four games have ended with fewer than three goals scored, and none of them have seen both teams get on the scoresheet.
Last season’s 7th place finishers have improved over the last couple of weeks though. They began the campaign with back-to-back defeats to Vitebsk and Gorodeya, but have since broken their duck to defeat both Belshina and Dinamo Minsk.
Low scoring affair expected in Minsk
Given how both these teams have started the season, we’re expecting another low scoring clash here. With just one of their combined eight league games seeing three or more goals, backing Under 2.5 goals looks a good shout for Thursday afternoon.
In the end, we think Energetik-BGU can bounce back from their weekend defeat. They have won both their home games so far and, while Gorodeya have shown signs of improvement, they have still lost two of their last three away games. Both of these defeats ended in 1-0 scorelines, so we’re backing that for our correct score prediction.
