Everton (Women) vs Manchester City (Women) Predictions
- Man City won 17 of their 22 Women’s Super League contests last term
- Five of Man City’s final seven games last season featured under 3.5 goals
- Everton had a 9-5-8 record in last season’s top division
City to win low-scoring affair
Arguably the key fixture in the new Women’s Super League season on Saturday, Manchester City travel to Goodison Park to face Everton and look a good bet to prevail.
City finished only two points off champions Chelsea in 2020-21, losing only once all season in the league, and will be keen to get the new campaign off to a flying start.
And although they have enough in their locker to come out on top, they may not have things all their own way.
They won both meetings with Everton 1-0 and 3-0 last season and it could again be worth backing a City win and under 3.5 goals on Merseyside.
Five of their last seven games last term featured four or fewer goals and, although Vicky Losada has joined from Barcelona, they have lost the creativity of midfielders Rose Lavelle and Sam Mewis, who both departed over the summer.
Everton have also cultivated a reputation as a team who try to shut out their opposition rather than push for goals – they shipped 30 goals last season which is not a bad tally for a team in the mid-table positions.
Both teams could still be a little rusty and with City likely a touch fatigued from their gruelling 1-1 draw with Real Madrid in the Champions League earlier this week, we predict a low-scoring success. Go for a 2-0 win in the correct score market.
