• Faroe Islands finished third in Group C4 in the 2024-25 Nations League
• Kazakhstan, meanwhile, were relegated from Group B3 after picking up only one point
• Faroe Islands have lost only one of their last eight home matches 

Faroes to rule over visitors

Two teams who fought valiantly but ultimately failed to make it to a maiden World Cup meet in this Nations League opener, as Faroe Islands take on Kazakhstan in Group C3. 

The pair are expected to battle it out for second behind Slovakia but there was a fair bit to like about their 2026 qualifying campaigns, both of which suggested they have their ambitions set higher. 

Faroe Islands finished third in their section, only four points behind a strong Czech Republic side who they beat 2-1 during the campaign. The Kazakhs were less consistent, picking up just eight points, but did manage an impressive 1-1 draw with Belgium. 

Kazakhstan could be edged out 

That suggests a close match could play out on Saturday. However, the venue looks set to be the deciding factor. 

While Kazakhstan have enjoyed some decent results of late, the majority have come on their own patch. Their only win in 16 away games has come at Liechtenstein and with that run including 13 losses, it is hard to see them coping with Faroe Islands. 

The hosts, meanwhile, have lost to only Croatia in their last eight home matches and four wins from five on their own patch spells trouble for the Kazakhs.
