Ingolstadt vs Borussia Monchengladbach Predictions

Ingolstadt and Borussia Monchengladbach are both much improved following mid-season managerial changes: Ingolstadt coach Maik Walpurgis’ record of 16 points from 11 games is miles better than predecessor Markus Kauczinski (2 points in 10 matches) and last weekend’s surprise 2-0 win away to Eintracht Frankfurt has pushed Ingolstadt to within just two points of Hamburger SV and safety from relegation – something thought near unattainable when his side sat rock bottom with just two points.

For Borussia M’gladbach, Dieter Hecking has made an immediate impact since being appointed over the winter break. Under his guidance, Gladbach find themselves back on track, though still way off the top 4, and stand behind only league leaders Bayern Munich in the form table for 2017 (W3 D1 L1). Borussia M’gladbach were dominant and unfortunate in last weekend’s 2-1 defeat away to RB Leipzig, so confidence should still be high for players and fans alike.

Ingolstadt are slight favourites at 13/8 with bet365, but we feel that backing the visitors “0.0 Asian Handicap” at 49/50 is the best bet here for the following reasons: though Gladbach seemed incapable of producing results on the road in 2016, becoming notorious as a “travel-sick” side in the process, much is changed under coach Dieter Hecking. Gladbach are unbeaten across all competitions in away matches in 2017 (W3 D1) and Borussia have even kept a clean sheet in three of these (75%). Meanwhile, though Ingolstadt are much improved overall since Walpurgis’ appointment, the South Germans still hold the worst home record in the Bundesliga (W2 D2 L6), losing 60% of all matches, and are without a doubt the much weaker side on paper. Borussia M’gladbach’s return to form makes them top value here.

Regarding a correct score bet, with Gladbach keeping clean sheets much more regularly and Ingolstadt failing to score in 40% of their matches at home, we feel the visitors newfound defensive form could play a crucial role here. Ingolstadt have lost 2-0 in 40% of their matches at home and with Gladbach averaging 2 goals per match over their last three on the road, we feel another could be on the cards. As such, Borussia M’gladbach to win 2-0 at 11/1 is a decent shout here.
