FC Porto vs Feirense Predictions
Porto have boosted their European hopes this week, but will they return to winning ways in the league? The Dragons were 3-1 winners at Lokomotiv Moscow on Wednesday, as the Russian side put in a sloppy display. The Portuguese champions are likely to face a sterner test in their league match this weekend, as Feirense head to the Dragao. The visitors are sitting in midtable in the early stages of the season, but they’ve already shown some impressive defensive resolve ahead of this encounter.
Porto may be toasting a win in Europe, but their last Primeira Liga game wasn’t as impressive. They started October with a 1-0 loss to rivals Benfica, and they’re hoping to bounce back from that loss here. That defeat has them two points shy of the Eagles, after regaining the domestic title back in May. Porto edged out the rest of the big three in a close race, but this season they find themselves trailing a solid Braga side, who are currently ahead of the champions, occupying the final Champions League spot.
Feirense made a pacey start to the season, but their form has tailed off to leave them in ninth. They may be in the top half, but that hasn’t kept them safe. They’re just three points clear of the drop zone, so they need to up their game. The visitors make this trip without a league win in their last five games, having won their opening two. Of late things have been quite close for them, having scored just once in that five game spell. They prepare for a mean Porto defence this weekend, so Feirense aren’t likely to have many chances going forward.
The hosts have won five of their last six matches, and they’re massive favourites to take the points in this encounter. The visitors have lost back to back away trips, going down 1-0 at Sporting and Moreirense. The visitors have seen plenty of close games so far, with 100% of their outings finishing with fewer than three goals scored. They have one of the best defensive records in the league, letting in just three goals. However, they’ve not scored in their last four league games.
Porto have been solid at the back this season, keeping clean sheets in 57% of their games. Forward Vincent Aboubakar is out, which has left them light up front. That means the champions are unlikely to thump Feirense, especially after beating them by a single goal in both meetings last season. We’re going with a home win and under 3.5 goals, along with a 2-0 win for the champions.
