Tough opener for Porto

Porto finished a fairly distant third in the battle for the title in the Primeira Liga last season and will be looking to close the gap this term.

The Dragons have brought in a few new faces over the summer but a couple of players have also moved on and they don’t necessarily look a stronger side, so they could find themselves behind Lisbon pair Sporting and Benfica once again.

Guimaraes finished sixth last season and should provide an early test for Porto, but home form wasn’t the issue for the Portuguese heavyweights.

The club have brought in Italian Francesco Farioli as manager and he should be able to make a winning start as Porto won 13 of their 17 home league games last term.
