Vizela can bag against under-pressure Porto

Porto cannot afford to drop points when they host mid-table Vizela at the Dragao on Sunday. The Dragons could be 11 points behind leaders Benfica by the time this game kicks off, although it will be one of two games they will have in hand on their title rivals.

Sergio Conceicao’s side overcame a stern test in Funchal on Wednesday when they won 2-0 against Maritimo. It all looked to be going south for them when Bernardo Folha was sent off for a second bookable offence after an early Maritimo onslaught, but the hosts were reduced to ten men as well shortly after and two goals at the start of the second half settled any nerves.

Porto are doing their best to make the league interesting, but Benfica’s ultra-consistent form will take it’s toll soon and they may be forced to accept the gap is unbridgeable.

Dragons will do enough to win

For now, they can still be trusted to take down teams like Vizela. But the pressure is ramping up and it could lead to more problems like the ones they encountered in midweek. Vizale are coming off a superb 3-1 home win over Rio Ave, which showcased their ability to dig in and counter-attack effectively.

Both of those qualities will need to be on show again at the Dragao, where Porto have conceded in four of their last five home games. Backing the hosts to win without a clean sheet looks like a solid play here as Vizela have scored in all but one of their Primeira Liga away games this season.

Porto usually win by more than a goal against their Minho visitors, who will be without suspended centre-back Anderson, so a 3-1 success is recommended for correct score purposes.
