FC Sion vs Servette Predictions
- Sion avoided relegation after winning a relegation playoff against Thun last season
- Servette finished in third place, qualifying for the Europa Conference League as a result
- Both teams have scored in six of the last seven games between the two sides
Tight game in Sion
Sion will be hoping for a better season this time round after avoiding automatic relegation by just two points before narrowly beating Thun over two legs in a relegation playoff to remain a Super League side. The team conceded 58 goals in 36 games last season, a total they will need to improve on this season to stand a chance of more success than their last campaign.
Servette performed above expectations last season, beating Lugano to the final European place and finishing in third place. They scored less than their opponents this weekend despite their big differences in league standing and conceded just two games less with the two teams having season a lot more similar than they might have appeared to at first glance.
With these two sides conceding 114 goals between them last season, a rate of 1.58 goals per game, it’s clear to see that neither defensive unit looks secure. For that reason, and with no real improvement from either side in the summer, we’re backing both teams to score in this game. The two sides look quite evenly matched and we’re forecasting a 1-1 draw in this tie, a result that both sides would probably take from the opening game of the season.
