Feirense vs Sporting Lisbon Predictions

Feirense prop up the Primeira Liga table having managed fourteen points from their twenty league games this season, and on Sunday face another tough challenge in the form of Sporting CP. The visitors are due a win and a clean sheet after drawing with Vitoria Setubal, losing twice against local rivals Benfica, and failing to keep their opponents from scoring in any of their last six matches.

A tight and tense match was always expected between Boavista and fellow relegation battlers Feirense last weekend and heading into the halftime interval the game was still deadlocked at 0-0. Angolan striker Mateus put Boavista in front eleven minutes into the second half, and despite having more of the overall possession, Feirense never really looked like scoring. An own goal from Sporting centre back Tiago Ilori doubled Benfica’s lead in the sixty-fourth minute, but a late strike from the visitors star man Bruno Fernandes kept the tie very much alive.

Sporting have clearly out performed Feirense this season and have a great record against their hosts, and those two reasons are why we believe Sporting will claim all three points on Sunday. The visitors have won their last five games against Feirense and have only once dropped points in fifteen previous encounters against this particular opponent. Sporting have also managed to keep three clean sheets in their last four matches against Feirense and are due another after failing to keep any in their last six attempts. Feirense have lost three of their last four and have failed to score in three of their last four matches, adding fuel to our prediction of a Sporting win to nil.

Edinho top scores for the hosts with four league goals this season, but Feirense are lacking a natural goalscorer up front and it could be their ultimate undoing. Dost has netted twelve times in the Primeira Liga for Sporting, seven of which have arrived in the form of penalties, while star player Bruno Fernandes has scored eight league goals.

We’re confident that Sporting will win to nil on Sunday, and have backed a final scoreline of 2-0. The visitors are the better team and need to show a response following back to back defeats against local rivals Benfica. Feirense have struggled for goals this season, sit bottom of the table, and haven’t won any of their last nine games in all competitions. We’re not expecting a big win for the visitors, but we do expect the Feirense forwards to struggle against top quality defenders.
