Ferencvarosi TC vs Espanyol Predictions

Not much was expected of Ferencvaros ahead of the Europa League starting this year but a combination of some good results for the Hungarian side and the disappointing campaign of CSKA Moscow means that they stand a good chance of qualifying from Group H. They’ll need some luck but a result from this match would go a long way to them reaching the final 32. 

A win and a draw against CSKA Moscow and a draw in the return fixture against Espanyol put the side just one point behind Ludogorets in third place and they’ll know that their match against the Bulgarian side in matchweek six will likely be a straight shootout to see who joins Espanyol in the knockout stages. Despite their efforts in the Europa League this season, Ferencvaros have only scored twice, something which could hugely stunt them in their quest to advance. 

Espanyol have been quietly efficient in their work this season, an opening matchweek draw in the reverse fixture being the only blip for the team but their qualification is assured and the pressure is off for their trip to Budapest. They’ve only conceded one goal and with 10 being scored they’ve easily been the standout performers of Group H. 

With so much on the line for Ferencvaros, we think they should be pushing from the start to try and get the result they need and we’re predicting them to get on the scoresheet. However, Espanyol possess the superior quality across the pitch and this should see them also make the net bulge and we’re predicting that both teams will score. 

Espanyol don’t have a huge amount of motivation coming into the game and are likely to be focussed on their domestic campaign, where things haven’t been going well for them. With that knowledge, we’re predicting that Ferencvaros could do enough to claim a point and are tipping a 1-1 draw that should make the final matchweek very interesting in Group H.
