Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Feyenoord’s games have been fairly high-scoring and there have been at least three goals scored in seven of their last eight fixtures across all comps, while Celtic’s European games are averaging just over 2.5 goals per-game. Both sides should be able to contribute to the overall total so over 2.5 goals looks a strong play in this league phase clash.

Feyenoord 3-1

Reason for tip

Feyenoord are on a three-game losing streak but their form at De Kuip remains strong, with seven wins in 10 games at home across all competitions. Celtic are yet to win on their travels in Europe this season but have only failed to score in one of their four league phase games and should be able to strike in defeat, so a 3-1 home win has a chance.

Feyenoord vs Celtic Predictions

  • Over 2.5 goals has landed in seven of Feyenoord’s last eight games.
  • Celtic have scored in three of their four UEL assignments.
  • Celtic are yet to win away in Europe this season.

Must-win clash at De Kuip

Feyenoord host Celtic in round five of the league phase of the Europa League on Thursday in a meeting between two sides who are in danger of falling at the first hurdle.

Celtic are one point adrift of the play-off spots, but with tough games against Roma and Bologna to come in their final three games they need to get something in the Netherlands to realistically remain in contention.

Feyenoord are a point worse off and probably have an easier run-in but defeat at this stage to a direct rival could prove costly.

Both of these teams come into the game in mixed form so focusing on the goals markets looks the best angle for our main bet, and backing these teams to combine for at least three goals looks the best starting point even at a fairly short price.

Feyenoord’s games have been generally high-scoring and there have been at least three goals scored in seven of their last eight fixtures across all competitions. Celtic’s European games are averaging just over 2.5 goals per-game and they look capable of contributing to the total in Rotterdam, as in this competition they have only failed to score against a Braga side who have kept three clean sheets in the league phase.

With home advantage, Feyenoord are the more likely winners despite coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. Robin van Persie’s side have seven wins in 10 games at home across all competitions and Celtic are yet to win away in Europe this season. A Bhoys goal is expected but Feyenoord can outgun them and a 3-1 home win is the pick, as Feyenoord have scored 13 goals across their last five games at De Kuip.
