Tip Reasoning

Saturday’s Brazilian Serie A action sees Fluminense doing battle with Sao Paulo at the Estadio Maracanã. Plenty of action is expected to be in order in what should be a fairly even but open game.

Hosts Fluminense had been coming under fire from their fans in recent weeks but have now lifted spirits massively, after winning 2-1 away at Penarol in a midweek Copa Sudamericana clash they were significant underdogs in. That has confidence improved in Tricolor ranks and those taking to the pitch will be desperate to secure another victory on Sunday.

Flu could certainly do with a league win as they are currently in the drop zone with just 9 points from 11 games. Said points total is a little harsh on the side, as they’ve been very unlucky in several games but they really need to start picking up points to avoid being sucked into a potential relegation battle. As such, we can expect an aggressive performance from Fernando Diniz’s troops as they chase a first Serie A win in 6 games.

Meanwhile, Sao Paulo have also been coming under fire from their own support and the media but secured some relief with an excellent 4-0 crushing over Chapecoense last time out. Tricolor showed a ruthless attacking edge in said match and currently 5th in the table, there’s a feeling that said win can provide a springboard for further upward movement on the standings.

Thus far this season, Sao Paulo have simply been drawing far too many games and 6 of their 11 outings have ended all square. Indeed, 4 of their last 5 league matches have ended in draws and whilst a point wouldn’t represent terrible work in this trip to Rio, those taking to the pitch will surely only be doing so with 3 points in mind.

All things considered, this should be a fairly evenly matched contest between two outfits that are both likely to play in positive manners. Fluminense are a very attacking team when playing on their own patch, whereas Sao Paulo are the slightly stronger of the two on paper and have players that can hurt the hosts.

All things considered, backing both teams to score looks an excellent way to play in this match and is exactly where our money is going. The last 6 meetings between the two have seen both nets hit and that’s not a streak that looks like ending on Saturday.

Also appealing is a play on the draw and with the two teams looking very difficult to separate, that’s also something we are getting behind. Both league games between the two last season ended 1-1 and that’s not a scoreline that’s particularly difficult to imagine being repeated once more this time around.
