Gray’s men may go down against Gent
Gent can put a dent in Hibernian’s Europa Conference League hopes on Thursday when the Buffaloes play host to David Gray’s side in the first leg of their play-off round tie. The Belgian side secured their passage against IFK Gothenburg last week with a 1-1 draw in the second leg after beating the Swedes 1-0 on the road the week before.
They have also managed to win both of their Pro League games this term too, including a 2-0 win over a Mechelen side that finished fifth in the 2025-26 regular season. Gent possess the physicality and firepower that Hibs apparently do not.
The Edinburgh club scraped into this round after a dull 0-0 draw against Shkendija and, after a tough week of travelling, failed to produce much spark against Partick Thistle in the League Cup. Gray has mentioned that his players are unused to the Thursday-Sunday grind, which seems to be wearing them down after a few weeks of two-game weeks.
Buffaloes have enough for a 2-0 win
Backing Gent to cover a -1 handicap or win to nil look equally appealing, with perhaps Hibs’ likely defensive set-up indicating the latter may be the best way in. Hibs have failed to score in three of their last six Euro trips, including both this season.
The Buffaloes look a bit too strong for the Scottish side and are worth backing to secure a solid advantage to take to Easter Road for the second leg. They have scored exactly two goals in two of their last three games, so a 2-0 success may well fit the bill.
