Seagulls can soar to Spanish success

Fresh from a 1-0 Premier League success over Manchester City at the Etihad, Brighton turn their attention to the Conference League and a tie against Getafe.

The Seagulls are 9-4 favourites to win Europe’s third competition, and given the form of Fabien Hurzeler’s men, it could be argued that the south coast side could be shorter than that mark. 

Brighton have beaten Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Aston Villa this season and the Seagulls are a multi-faceted side. 

It has not been a case of just soaking up pressure and hitting teams on the break and Brighton have been as efficient against the Premier League’s elite as they have been against the top flight’s weaker sides. 

Coventry were hammered 5-0, Crystal Palace were crushed 5-0 and Brighton’s two Conference League matches this season have ended in a pair of 4-0 successes over Tromso and Kauno Zalgiris. 

Getafe picked up a point following a 1-1 draw in their Conference League opening against Universitatea Craiova, but the Spanish side were then hammered 5-2 at the Estadio Coliseum by Lugano. 

Jose Bordalas’s men can take confidence from Sunday’s 3-1 La Liga victory against Sevilla, but a battle against Brighton looks an altogether more difficult task and the Seagulls can secure a high-scoring success.
