Hamburg vs Heidenheim Predictions

A low-scoring basement battle likely

Hamburg and Heidenheim occupy the bottom two positions in the Bundesliga table after three rounds of fixtures and with both clubs lacking oomph, bettors shouldn’t expect fireworks when they collide at Volksparkstadion on Saturday.

Hamburg have just returned to the Bundesliga after seven years in the lower-league wilderness, though they’ve found it tough to compete so far, and though they dug out a point on the opening weekend against Gladbach (0-0), they failed to register again in subsequent defeats to St Pauli (2-0) and Bayern Munich (5-0).

They banked on forward Yussuf Poulsen as their big-name summer signing, however, the injury issues that plagued the Dane at previous club RB Leipzig have already re-emerged at Hamburg and the 31-year-old could miss out again this weekend.

Heidenheim meanwhile, have been just as toothless and were beaten to nil in each of their last two Bundesliga tests, either side of the international break, by RB Leipzig (2-0) and Dortmund (2-0).

Struggling Hamburg (1.30) and Heidenheim (2.10) rank last and second-last for expected goals and in the same positions for average shots attempted per game, and a dip into the under 2.5 goals market looks like the best way to take advantage of their shared plight.

Backing Heidenheim to edge the game 1-0 is our favoured approach in the correct score stakes, however. The visitors lodged three shots on target in their last away game at Leipzig, which is more than Hamburg have managed in any single sitting so far, so Heidenheim could be the likelier of the two to steal the points.
