Helmond Sport vs FC Volendam Predictions

Two sides languishing towards the foot of the Eerste Divisie clash at Lavans Stadion this Friday as Helmond Sport host Volendam. With both teams winless from six league starts, which side if any can bag their first success of the 2018/19 campaign on match day seven?

We’re only six games into the new Eerste Divisie season, but things are already looking extremely bleak for both Helmond Sport and Volendam.

The sides currently sit 17^th and 18^th respectively in the table after failing to win any of their league outings thus far, and their form is a clear continuation of woeful endings to last term.

Helmond Sport finished 18^th last season after losing their final half dozen games of the campaign, and Volendam dropped out of contention into 14^th after suffering four defeats on the spin.

So with both sides in dreadful form heading into match day seven, Friday’s fixture at Lavans Stadion is a bit of a headscratcher.

It appeared as though new Helmond boss Rob Alflen had steadied the ship somewhat at the beginning of this term, as his team earned three consecutive draws against Dordrecht (0-0), FC Twente (2-2) and Jong PSV (1-1).

Those results were a step in the right direction after last season where Sport lost 20 of their 38 league fixtures, but things have taken a nosedive since.

Sport were toothless in a 0-2 defeat at home to Den Bosch on match day four and lost by the same scoreline on match day five away to defending champions Jong Ajax.

A third defeat on the spin was handed out by NEC last week, though it must be said that Sport played marginally better, only going down 2-3 to the promotion favourites.

Nonetheless, any positives taken from that effort were wiped out in midweek as Sport were thrashed here 0-5 by Fortuna Sittard in the Dutch Cup.

The hosts are in such bad shape right now that they simply can’t be touched from a betting perspective, but the same has to be said of visitors Volendam.

Boss Mischa Salden is arguably fortunate to remain in the job considering his team are now winless in ten Eerste Divisie games stretching back to last season, and they’ve been beaten in all three of their away fixtures this term to Sparta Rotterdam (2-0), Go Ahead Eagles (3-0) and Jong PSV (1-0).

They go into match day seven with confidence at an all-time low, and like Sport, they won’t even have the Dutch Cup as a welcome distraction after being eliminated 1-2 by Willem II on Tuesday night.

So it’s fairly obvious for us here that we should swerve the match betting and look to total goals market instead.

Both sides have drawn a blank in three of their last four competitive games, whilst half of their last six meetings have finished up with fewer than 2.5 goals.

That’s the angle we’re taking here at decent odds with a cagey and nervy affair anticipated. Alongside this, we’re opting for a 1-1 draw in the correct score market.
