Houston Dynamo, for the most part, had an excellent season last year as they finished 4th in the MLS Western Conference, although had it not been for a late drop off in form it could have been even higher. They are nine points adrift of the leaders, but have games in hand on three of the five teams above them and could move as high as 3rd if everything goes to plan.

New York City, having consistently improved season on season since their inception in 2015, seem to have hit a wall recently. They beat Colorado Rapids 4-0 last time out, but their overriding issue for the last few years has been their lack of consistency. They have won just two of their last six games in the MLS, a significant downturn in form after they won five of their opening six.

It’s these spells of poor form that have plagued New York City in their quest to reach the top spot, and it’s something they have to overcome if they are to become the elite team in the MLS. They do remain in a decent 2nd place, but with New York Red Bulls three points behind with two games in hand that could change soon.

Away from home New York City have only won two of their seven league matches this season as well, losing twice and drawing the other three games 2-2. In fact, they have conceded at least two goals in five of their seven away days this season, whilst Houston Dynamo have scored at least twice in three of their five home games and have netted a total of 13 goals at the BBVA Compass Stadium.
