Houston Dynamo vs Toronto FC Predictions
Houston Dynamo had a difficult season in the MLS last year as they finished outside the Western Conference playoffs, but this season is going even worse at the moment. They come into this match rock bottom of the MLS Western Conference with just 20 points from their 22 games.
This leaves them four points adrift of 9th placed Seattle Sounders and a huge 12 points off the last of the playoff spots. They do have a games in hand over some of the teams above them, but even if they win both of those they would still be six points off the playoffs and still bottom of the table.
Houston Dynamo did show some signs of resurgence may in Jun when they won three and drew three in a run of seven matches in all competitions, but two of those victories came in the US Open Cup. They have since reverted to their usual ways. Coming into this match they have lost three and drawn three of their last six games.
While Houston Dynamo are declining, Toronto FC look to me making significant improvements. They beat Whitecaps to the Canadian Cup earlier in the season and look primed to improve on their 6th place finish in the MLS Eastern Conference last season.
They are currently in 2nd position in the Eastern Conference, just a point adrift of leaders New York City and with a game in hand on them. Below them Montreal Impact are three points adrift and have a game in hand over them, so it could end up being a two-horse Canadian race to the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
Toronto FC are in very good form at the moment as well. They have won four on the bounce in the MLS and scored an impressive 12 goals, conceding just twice. All of these wins have been on home turf though, and away from home they are winless in five matches, losing four of them.
This isn’t good news for the visitors, and it’s made even worse by the fact that Houston Dynamo are unbeaten at home in their last six MLS matches. They have managed to keep a clean sheet in all but one of these as well, so my prediction is for the visitors could find it difficult to get on the scoresheet here.
The visitors aren’t bad going forward, but Houston Dynamo have proved to be solid at the back at the BBVA Compass Stadium. With huge odds of 9/4 on offer, I think backing a Houston Dynamo Clean Sheet is the best value bet on offer, so I’m going for that along with a 1-0 correct score prediction at 7/1.
