Hungary vs Finland Predictions
- Both teams have scored in five of Hungary’s last nine matches
- Hungary have not scored more than two goals in any of their last 10 matches
- Finland beat World Cup-bound New Zealand and held Cape Verde in the FIFA Series earlier this year
Hungary are difficult to beat at home
Hungary appear to be uneasy favourites for a relatively meaningless summer friendly against a Finland side on the improve. Marco Rossi’s men have plateaued since their European Championship qualification of two years ago and come into this amid a run of five defeats, three draws and only four wins since the start of 2025.
Like Finland, they failed to make it to the World Cup, falling agonisingly short in the group stage. They were seconds away from finishing above Ireland before two late goals from Troy Parrott denied them a place at the tournament, but recent results at home — including a win over Slovenia and a draw with Greece — suggest they remain a difficult side to beat in Budapest.
Finland, meanwhile, arrive fresh from a 4–0 defeat to Germany in Mainz on Sunday, albeit the scoreline does not perhaps fully reflect how the game went.
Finns showed positive signs against Germany
Jacob Friis’ side showed bravery in the opening half‑hour against the Germans and their 4‑3‑3 shape offered some midfield stability, but defensive issues remain a major concern. Basic errors, poor marking and shaky man‑tracking continue to undermine their attacking intent.
Hungary will welcome back key figures such as Dominik Szoboszlai and striker Barnabás Varga, who scored five goals in qualifying and remains their most reliable finisher. With Finland’s back line struggling and Hungary strong at home, the hosts should create enough chances to edge a competitive contest.
Finland have shown they can trouble bigger nations — their win over Poland in Helsinki proved that — but their defensive fragility makes it difficult to see them keeping Hungary out for 90 minutes.
