      Iran to Win

      Reason for tip

Iran comfortably qualified for this summer’s World Cup and reached their fourth consecutive tournament on the world stage. They have won three games in a row to prepare for their opening fixture and should be able to beat a New Zealand side that have lost nine in 11.

      Iran 1-0

      Reason for tip

Iran’s success is built around their resolute defence and they only conceded 12 goals across 16 qualifiers. They have recorded two clean sheets against Mali and Costa Rica in their last three wins, while New Zealand have failed to score in four of their last five.

      Iran vs New Zealand Predictions

      • Iran have won three games in a row ahead of the tournament
      • New Zealand have lost nine of their last 11 matches
      • Iran only conceded 12 goals in 16 qualifiers

All Whites to fall short once again

New Zealand have never won a World Cup match before and that record should remain intact when they take on Iran in Inglewood at the SoFi Stadium.

The two teams have been paired together in Group G alongside Belgium and Egypt and Amir Ghalenoei’s team will be quietly confident of finishing in the top two.

Iran had little issue qualifying, finishing level on points with Uzbekistan in the second round, before finishing ahead of them and Qatar in round three. All three teams will feature at this summer’s World Cup, but New Zealand were not exactly put through their paces against Tahiti, Vanuatu, Samoa, Fiji and New Caledonia.

The All Whites will feel the step up in quality immediately against Iran, and their recent form suggests they will struggle from the outset.

New Zealand have lost nine of their last 11 matches and they were recently hammered 4-0 by Haiti, who many consider to be one of the worst teams at the World Cup this summer.

Darren Bazeley has limited resources to work with and his side should be no match for an Iran team that have won three games in a row, beating Costa Rica 5-0, Gambia 3-1 and Mali 2-0.
