Junior vs Flamengo Predictions
- Junior crashed out at this stage of the Libertadores last year, taking just 3 points from a group containing Palmeiras, San Lorenzo and Melgar.
- Junior have lost their last 5 Libertadores games against Brazilian opponents.
- Flamengo have won 7 of their last 8 matches, scoring an average of 2.75 goals a game in the process.
Junior looking for strong home result
Colombians Junior come into this year’s Copa Libertadores desperate to improve upon their performances in last year’s edition of the competition. Los Tiburones severely underwhelmed in a group containing Palmeiras, San Lorenzo and Melgar; finishing rock bottom with a measly 3 points to their name.
Now up against current champions Flamengo, Sudamericana winners Independiente del Valle and Barcelona, Junior once again look like having their work cut out and performance levels are going to have to be high if they are to reach the knockout phase. Having won just 1 of their last 4 matches, confidence isn’t high coming into this game with Flamengo but the side know they need to try and make home advantage count to secure a positive result.
Rampant Flamengo looking to start with a win
Meanwhile, after claiming the Copa Libertadores crown and romping to the Brazilian Serie A title, Flamengo were clearly the best team in South America in 2019. Now having added to an already supremely talented group, Mengao are the clear favourites to lift the title once again and will certainly take some stopping.
We may only be in March, but Jorge Jesus’ men already have 3 titles to their name, having won the Supercopa do Brasil, the Recopa Sudamericana and the opening phase of State League action. With 7 wins from 8 behind them, Flamengo travel to Colombia in confident mood and will be hungry to secure victory.
Flamengo are clear favourites
Ultimately, Flamengo go into every match they play as huge favourites and that’s no different here. Junior struggled massively on the big stage last term and it’s hard to see them picking up a result in Thursday’s game, given they’ve lost their last 5 Libertadores matches against Brazilian opponents.
All things considered, backing an away win looks by far the best way to play as far as the betting is concerned and is something we’re more than happy to do. Flamengo should prove far too powerful for Junior and we fancy them to run out comfortable 2-0 winners.
