Lazio vs Rennes Predictions

Lazio’s preparations for Thursday’s match went perfectly as they recorded an impressive 4-0 win at home against Genoa on Sunday, while Rennes’ winless run continued as they drew 1-1 at Marseille and have now dropped to eighth in the table.

All of the stats point towards a win and a clean sheet for the hosts on Thursday and we’ve backed Lazio to run out 2-0 winners against Ligue 1 side Rennes.

These two clubs have never met before but both are experienced in European competition, with Lazio winning the Cup Winners’ Cup and Super Cup in 1999 and Rennes winning the Intertoto Cup in 2008. The form of the two clubs heading into Thursday’s clash provides the basis of our prediction for this game, as Lazio have won two of their last three matches and Rennes have failed to win any of their last six games league or cup.

The performances of both teams over the last few weeks adds weight to our prediction of a clean sheet for the home side on Thursday, as Lazio have kept clean sheets in two of their last three matches against Parma and Genoa, while Rennes have failed to score in two of their last three away games against Nantes and Brest.

Lazio are unbeaten at home this season, picking up two wins and a draw, and look at their strongest in their own backyard, while Rennes have failed to win any of their last three away games and their overall form is poor heading into Thursday’s match. Three of Lazio’s last six and each of Rennes’ last five matches have produced under 2.5 goals, which is why we have gone with a 2-0 final score in favour of Lazio this week.

We’re confident that Lazio will win to nil and have predicted a final scoreline of 2-0. The hosts look strong at home with six goals scored and none conceded in their last two matches and their guests have failed to win any of their last six games in league and cup which includes their last three away games. Lazio should win this game with relative ease and extend their unbeaten record at home this season to four matches.
