Leeds vs Norwich Predictions

  • Norwich have scored only seven away goals in the league this term
  • The Canaries have lost to nil in 62% of their trips
  • Leeds have taken 10 points from a possible 12 against the bottom three
  • The hosts have won six of their last seven meetings with promoted teams in the top-flight

Sunday blues for Canaries

As Norwich drift towards the Championship, they’ll be worried to hear they’ve won just 14% of their Premier League games played on a Sunday. With relegation looming, that’s a number which needs to change in this weekend’s crunch clash.

The league’s two worst sides on form meet at Elland Road, with Leeds hoping this is Jesse Marsch’s chance to turn things around. Both sides are likely to end up in the second-tier unless their form changes soon, which could bring a cagey clash as the pair look to avoid defeat.

Travel troubles to hurt Norwich

Another stat which makes tough reading for the visiting side is that they have scored fewer away goals than any other side in the Premier League this season. Norwich have scored only seven times on their travels in the league, losing five of seven away league games under Dean Smith.

While they’ll target Elland Road as somewhere to turn their bad form around, Norwich look to be up against it here. Leeds have lost seven times at home, but six have come to sides in the top-half. The other was to Newcastle, during a run which has led the Magpies into second in the form table.

Against bottom-half sides this term Leeds have only lost once, including victories over the other two members of the bottom three. They also won away at bottom side Norwich earlier this term, claiming 10 points from a possible 12 against them overall.

Leeds to edge tense test

The hosts do have more previous backing them up going into this clash. Since their return to the top-flight last season, Leeds have won six of their seven Premier League games against promoted sides.

They shouldn’t suffer the same defensive lapses in a clash with the league’s lowest scorers, so I don’t see this being the wide open game that some are suggesting. Relegation is becoming more and more real for both and the stakes here should see both sides desperate to keep things tight.

I think a mix of Leeds’ home record, Norwich’s away record and the Whites’ good return against promoted sides makes them the favourites. However, I can understand they’re a bit short in the betting. With that in mind, I’m going with Leeds and under three goals, while I’m backing a 1-0 defeat for a Norwich side who have lost 62% of their away trips to nil.

Leeds predicted lineup: Meslier; Ayling, Llorente, Struijk, Dallas; Forshaw, Koch; Raphinha, Rodrigo, Harrison; Bamford

Norwich predicted lineup: Krul; Aarons, Hanley, Kabak, Williams; Gilmour, Rupp, McLean; Sargent, Pukki, Rashica
