- Kylian Mbappe has a chance of returning from injury in this clash
Mbappe may be back in time to face Lille
Kylian Mbappe is a potential surprise inclusion for Real Madrid and could face his younger brother when the Champions League holders take on Lille at Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Wednesday evening.
The France international has made a quicker-than-expected recovery from a biceps injury he sustained in his side’s 3-2 win over Alaves last weekend. Real Madrid will not want to take any risks, but he could make all the difference as they attempt to follow up their 3-1 win over Stuttgart in the opening game of the League stage.
Lille, who began with a 2-0 defeat at Sporting Lisbon, returned to winning ways at the weekend when Jonathan David’s hat-trick propelled them to a 3-0 win at Le Havre. Les Dogues scored three in a draw with Strasbourg the week before, so do not appear to be having many problems in attack at the moment.
Les Dogues can get goals without Gomes
The younger Mbappe got a few minutes off the bench at the weekend and will be hoping to be involved at some point, particularly as playmaker Angel Gomes is suspended for this one.
Lille won all three Ligue 1 matches that Gomes missed through suspension or injury last season, scoring six goals across those fixtures. They can still raise their game to a level that makes it very difficult for the visitors.
So backing both teams to score looks a safer option than getting behind Real Madrid to take all three points in France because Los Merengues have won only one of their four away trips this season.
