Lincoln City vs Gillingham Predictions
- Lincoln City have failed to win in their last 6 matches.
- 76% of Lincoln City’s points have been earned at home.
- Gillingham have been undefeated in their last 14 matches.
- Gillingham have been undefeated in their last 7 away matches.
Form has taken a hit
It has been an eventful few years for Lincoln City as they finally ended their downward spiral which saw them drop into non-league football as they climbed back up the leagues, winning silverware at Wembley along the way. However, with the Imps now without the manager who brought that success and forging their path under new leadership, they have found things pretty hard going in England’s third tier.
Although they come into this match without a win in any of their last six league matches, the hosts will take confidence that they come into this match on home soil, as a massive 76% of the points they have put on the board this term have come from matches in front of their own fans. Such a stat is not surprising when you consider that they have scored 61% of their goals at Sincil Bank and have conceded just 36% of their goals there.
An in form visiting side
While their hosts may be struggling at the moment, the same cannot be said for this weekend’s visitors, Gillingham. The visitors are playing some of their best football of the season at the moment and they come into this match undefeated in their last 14 league matches. With such an impressive record, it should come as no surprise to learn that they are chasing down a top seven spot and are now just three points off the play-off places.
Although there is plenty for them to be happy about, their form on the road is the one area which can be improved upon as, although they have lost just three of their 16 matches away from home, they have had to settle for a share of the spoils on 10 of those fixtures.
The hosts could get something
One look at the form book will have most people lumping on the visitors coming out on top, and while that may well prove to be the case, we think that this may land a few accumulators in trouble. Make no mistake, the visitors will be the most likely to get the win, but they have drawn 10 of 16 away matches this term and typically like to keep things tight when on the road. With this in mind, backing a draw looks to provide the best value from this fixture.
In terms of a correct score tip, we think that both will manage to find the back of the net. The hosts may have a decent average of 1.67 goals per game at home, but they concede over a goal per game on average and are up against a side who have conceded less than that on average when on the road. With this in mind, backing a 1-1 draw looks to be the way to go.
