Liverpool and Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Liverpool will be determined to bounce back after last weekend’s 1-1 draw and they should have too much attacking quality for Bournemouth at Anfield, where they lost only once in 19 league games last term. However, there are some defensive flaws and the Cherries could get on the scoresheet.

Liverpool 3-1

Reason for tip

Liverpool have scored three or more in seven of their last ten meetings with Bournemouth and correct-score punters should side with a 3-1 home win. The Reds’ fearsome frontline should make their presence felt.

Liverpool vs AFC Bournemouth Predictions

  • Liverpool lost only one of their 19 home league games last season
  • Liverpool have won six and drawn one of their seven meetings with Bournemouth at Anfield
  • Bournemouth have scored in five of their last eight away matches

Reds’ fearsome frontline should come to the fore

Bournemouth will have harrowing memories of last season’s trip to Merseyside, where Liverpool ran riot in a 9-0 demolition.

The Cherries got their revenge on the south coast, winning 1-0, but they have lost on six of their seven previous trips to Anfield and are likely to be found wanting again.

Plenty has changed since that drubbing from the Reds and a takeover in December has allowed them to inject some much-needed quality into the squad.

The appointment of highly-rated Spanish tactician Andoni Iraola also shows some serious intent, a recruitment drive that suggests they could go on an upward curve.

A 1-1 draw with West Ham in their opening game is a respectable starting point under Iraola, but Liverpool are likely to pose a much sterner test at their Anfield fortress.

The Reds also drew their opening game 1-1 against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, where they were the better team in the first half but second best after the break.

However, Liverpool are a completely different proposition at their Merseyside home, where they lost only one of their 19 league games last season.

Liverpool dominant at Anfield fortress

Leeds were the only team to upset Jurgen Klopp’s crew, whose list of victims included Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham.

With Luis Diaz back fit and healthy, Liverpool’s forward options are at full strength with Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota also fighting for places.

That array of attacking talent spells trouble for Bournemouth and they are likely to spend much of the game on the back foot.

However, there will be opportunities for the Cherries on the counter-attack and a consolation goal should be well within their reach.

Cherries should get their chances

Liverpool have lost a lot of experience from their midfield following the departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson and they have been trying hard to recruit a defensive protector.

Klopp’s team are more exposable defensively now than they have been for some time and they conceded 47 goals in 38 league games last term.

The Reds conceded in eight of their final 11 league matches, which includes against relegated duo Southampton and Leeds, as well as Nottingham Forest and West Ham.

In fact, Liverpool conceded in nine of their 19 league victories last term and they may struggle to shut out Bournemouth, who netted in five of their final eight away matches last season.

Liverpool have scored three or more in seven of their last ten meetings with Bournemouth and correct-score punters should side with a 3-1 home win.
