A Wembley final day is always a special occasion, and I’m fully expecting a strong squad selection from both sides for this one as both teams look to lift what could potentially be their only trophy of the season.

Liverpool have no chance of lifting their first Premier League title, and their FA Cup defeat to West Ham in the 4th Round ended that hope as well. This, along with the Europa League, is their only hope of picking up silverware this season. Manchester City are lagging behind in the title race, and with a trip to Anfield coming up in the league in midweek they will be hoping to gain a psychological advantage for what is a crucial Premier League match. Manchester City’s FA Cup hopes were also extinguished recently, with an inexperienced squad selection resulting in a 5-1 thrashing by Chelsea. They are in a good position in the Champions League though after picking up a 3-1 win in Kiev in the first leg of their tie.

Liverpool really haven’t looked at their best this season. They played out a goalless draw with Augsburg in the first leg of their Europa League tie before struggling through with a 1-0 win at Anfield on Thursday. Their attacking play was laboured and lacked inspiration, and their defence in general isn’t one to be relied upon. West Ham beat them in the FA Cup recently, and combined with a defeat to Leicester and draws against Sunderland and West Ham (again) this makes it just two wins from their last eight games in all competitions. Manchester City made their way to Wembley in a more comfortable fashion, although their 3-1 win against Everton at the Etihad did have a hint of good fortune about it. Man City’s win in Kiev in midweek showed the class they possess, and I don’t think you should read too much into their 5-1 defeat to Chelsea. The squad was filled with inexperienced players as Manuel Pellegrini opted to rest players ahead of their Champions League tie.

I’m expecting Manchester City to go for the win, as they will want nothing less than being taken to extra time at this congested time of the year. Odds of 13/10 for a Manchester City win look excellent value too, and a comfortable 2-0 correct score prediction is looking good too.
