Lyon vs Bayern Munich Predictions

  • Bayern Munich have won 19 consecutive games in all competitions.
  • The Bundesliga champions have won all nine of their Champions League games this season.
  • Lyon have scored in eight of their nine games in this competition.
  • Bayern Munich have scored exactly three goals in 44% of their Champions League games this season, conceding 0.89 goals per game on average.

Determined Lyon shock Citizens in Portugal

Lyon produced one of the shocks of the tournament on Saturday night as they dumped Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City out of the Champions League to reach their first semi-final since the 2009/10 campaign.

The underdogs took the lead through Maxwel Cornet and looked to be frustrating a Manchester City side that looked to be devoid of a plan B to get past the determined French side. A Kevin De Bruyne equaliser threatened to bring Lyon’s run to an end, but a late double from Moussa Dembele sealed the tie and set up a semi final against undoubtedly the most in-form side in Europe right now.

Devastating Bayern clear favourites for the trophy

Bayern Munich were favourites to get the win over an underperforming Barcelona, but few could have expected the extend of Barcelona’s humiliation. The Bavarians thrashed the Catalans 8-2, ruthlessly outperforming them in every area of the pitch and cementing their position as clear favourites to win the Champions League.

Bayern Munich have now won 19 consecutive matches in all competitions and have won all nine of their Champions League matches this season. Star striker Robert Lewandowski has scored an incredible 55 goals in 45 appearances for Bayern this season, including netting 14 times in his eight Champions League outings.

Les Gones not to be underestimated

Lyon’s campaign has been a little more turbulent. They finished 7th in Ligue 1 after the season was cut short due to coronavirus and they only finished a point ahead of Benfica and Zenit in the Champions League group stages.

However, since then they have eliminated both Juventus and Manchester City from the competition and cannot be taken lightly after their performance against the Citizens at the weekend.

Bayern have the edge but Lyon can bite back

Lyon have scored in eight of their nine games in the competition and in 19 of their last 22 in all competitions. Bayern may be world-beating opposition, but they have still conceded in five of their nine Champions League games this season and in seven of their last nine in all competitions.

With this in mind, it’s clear that Lyon have the talent to put this Bayern defence under pressure. However, the sheer brilliance of Bayern Munich’s midfield and attack should be more than enough to send the Germans to the final, so we’re backing Bayern Munich to win and both teams to score.

Bayern Munich have scored 4.33 goals per game in this season’s Champions League, which includes a seven goal haul at Spurs and that 8-2 demolition of Barcelona. However, they have scored exactly three goals in 44% of their games and, with an average of 0.89 goals conceded per game, backing a 3-1 victory looks perfect for the correct score prediction.

Gnabry set to shine in Lisbon

Robert Lewandowski may take all the plaudits with his incredible goalscoring record, but this domination of the scoring charts does mean he offers little value in the betting market.

He’s far from the only standout performer in this Bayern team, too. Serge Gnabry is third in the Champions League scoring charts with seven goals in eight appearances, which takes his tally up to 21 goals in 44 games for Bayern this season.

Gnabry has scored four goals in his last three Champions League outings, and backing him in the anytime goalscorer market could be a good idea on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Lyon centre back Marcelo is bound to be in for a difficult night against these shining Bavarian stars. The defender has picked up seven bookings in his last 18 appearances for Lyon and could find himself in trouble with the referee again.
