Bradford vs Peterborough Predictions

When Bradford beat Shrewsbury at the end of January, a victory that was their third in seven matches, it looked as though they were on their way to steering clear of the drop-zone, though the Bantams have since been dragged back into the thick of the fight for survival. After failing to win any of their last five, three of which they’ve lost, the Seasiders, who’ve just appointed Gary Bowyer as their new manager, need to regain the winning thread ASAP.

If Bradford are to stay in League One, then they’re going to have to do much better than they did at Fratton Park last weekend. Despite offering a reasonable amount going forward and getting on the score-sheet, the Bantams were outclassed from start to finish, while the less said about their defending the better. They were up against a Portsmouth side with a point to prove, but the fact that they shipped five goals and conceded 5.18 expected goals is simply not good enough.

The Bantams have now shipped eight goals in their last two matches, though fortunately, they were doing well defensively prior to that, while they’ve brought in a new manager who did a very good job of making Blackpool tough to beat at this level this season. If we combine the fact that Bowyer will likely look to give Bradford solid foundations with the fact that they’ve conceded just one goal in their last two at home, giving expected goals figures of just 0.61 and 05 away in the process, then it’s not difficult to see the Bantams delivering an improved defensive effort on Saturday.

Peterborough do come into this match having scored four goals last weekend, so they will be feeling confident, though their recent attacking efforts on the road haven’t been overly impressive. They scored just once against Oxford last time out, while they’ve recently posted expected-goals for figures of 1.54, 0.49, 1.32 and 0.25 on their travels. Such numbers won’t strike too much fear into the hearts of Saturdays hosts.

With both teams being involved in high-scoring games of late, it won’t be difficult for people to fancy goals in this game, though at the current prices, it may just be worth going in the other direction. New boss Gary Bowyer will undoubtedly look to shore things up for the hosts, which could make it tough for the visitors, who hardly sparkled when winning by a goal to nil away against Oxford in their last away match.

There are two bets that stand out ahead of this match. Firstly, ‘Under 2.5 Goals’ is worth a small punt, as is ‘Both Teams to Score – NO’. For all there was no shortage of goals in either Bradford or Peterborough’s game last weekend, there’s been just an average of 2.53 goals scored at Valley Parade this season, while the hosts have conceded few chances in recent home matches too. Add in the fact that both teams have found the net in just two of the last ten League One games at this venue and it’s easy to get with the above selections at the current prices.
