Goals to flow for Leverkusen again

There have been three goals or more in seven of the last nine Bundesliga head-to-heads between Mainz and Bayer Leverkusen, and over 2.5 goals looks the bet when they meet at the Mewa Arena on Saturday.

Bayer Leverkusen are fifth in the league, 11 places and seven points above Mainz. They have three wins, two draws and one defeat from their six games, while the hosts have won once, drawn once and lost four.

It’s a difficult time for Mainz, who have lost four of their last six Bundesliga matches. For their part, Bayer Leverkusen beat St Pauli 2-1 in their last away game last month and have gone unbeaten on 45 of their last 47 on the road.

Goals tend to follow the visitors around, with over 2.5 goals having been a winning bet in six of Bayer Leverkusen’s last eight Bundesliga away games. Three or more goals has been a feature of their last four on the road.

Neither side has been solid at the back. Mainz have failed to keep a clean sheet in all three of their home games this season, while Bayer Leverkusen have conceded on each of their last five road trips.

Bayer Leverkusen can secure a comfortable win in this one and, with both teams having scored in five of Leverkusen’s six Bundesliga games this season, a 3-1 victory for the visitors appeals as the correct score. Mainz have slumped to defeat by at least two goals in their last two league games.
