Malmo vs AFC Eskilstuna Predictions

This Saturday’s game in Sweden’s Allsvenskan sees early season leaders Malmo look to further their bid for another league title. They hold a single point advantage at the top of the division after 10 games, exactly a third of the season. This is their second game in a run which sees them play three consecutive home games and they will be looking to take full advantage against struggling AFC Eskilstuna.

Malmo have been the dominant force in Swedish football in recent years. They won the title in 2016 and 2017 but a turbulent 2018 campaign led to a disappointing 3rd place finish. They’ve built on a strong end to last year though and are currently odds on with the bookies to finish this season top of the pile and they’ve made a solid start with just a single defeat to their name so far.

AFC Eskilstuna meanwhile are back at this level having won promotion via the play-offs last term. They only lost twice in the whole Superettan season but they’ve been found wanting at a higher level. With just 6 points on the board at this stage, it is already pretty clear that they are going to face a real battle to stay in the Allsvenskan this term.

The pressure is on boss Nemanja Miljanović to turn things around but it’s hard to give them much hope here. AFC have lost all of their five away games so far this season in the Allsvenskan. Indeed you have to go all the way back to last August for their last away league win during the regular season.

Malmo meanwhile come into this on the back of four straight home wins. They hit four in two of those games and are currently averaging 2.4 goals per home game this term. It is fairly clear that there is a significant gulf in class between these sides and backing Malmo & Over 2.5 Goals could be worth a punt, particularly when you consider that 80% of AFC Eskilstuna’s away games this term have seen them lose with more than 2.5 goals in the match in total.
