Manchester City vs Manchester United Betting Tips & Predictions

Manchester City, the team that looked sure fire favourites for the Premier League title earlier in the season, suddenly find their top four position under threat. They are just two points ahead of West Ham in 5th and an insurmountable looking 12 points adrift of league leaders Leicester.

Manchester United sit four points adrift of their rivals in a disappointing 6th position, but a win on Sunday would put them right back in the mix for a top four spot after a disastrous season.

Manchester City’s main focus now will be the Champions League. They have already secured the Capital One Cup and are out of the FA Cup and as good as out of the Premier League title race. However, a derby day win is always high on the agenda no matter what the stakes are.

They aren’t in the best of form though. The hosts have only won two of their last nine in all competitions and have lost four times during this period, and in the Premier League they have lost three and drawn one of their last five. The absence of Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi will be difficult to deal with as well; the Manchester City defence looks a shadow of it’s former self when Kompany isn’t in the team, and I think they’ll find it very difficult to keep another clean sheet without his presence.

Manchester United saw themselves knocked out of the Europa League on Thursday as Liverpool held them to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, making the aggregate score 3-1 to their arch rivals. Another derby defeat on Sunday would be absolutely disastrous for the fans.

Despite their relatively poor form, Manchester United have only lost two of their last eight in all competitions and are still in the running for the FA Cup and a top 4 position.

I think the absence of key Manchester City players will hit them really hard, and this isn’t ideal when their form is rocky already. This gives Manchester United a chance in my book, and odds of 2.075 for a Manchester United +0.5 Asian Handicap Win are excellent value. I’m going for a 1-1 correct score prediction at 13/2 as well.
