Manchester City and Both Teams To Score
Reasoning
Manchester City vs RB Leipzig Predictions
- Manchester City are unbeaten in their last 27 home matches, winning 25 in that run
- Leipzig’s last four Champions League matches have seen both teams find the net
- Manchester City have won three of their five meetings with Leipzig, with all of those victories seeing over 3.5 goals
- Leipzig have been defeated in their last four matches in England, losing by an aggregate score of 20-3 in those games
Etihad to remain a fortress
Both of these sides have already qualified for the knockout stage of the Champions League with Tuesday’s match representing a straight shootout for top spot in Group G as RB Leipzig need three points to have a chance at usurping their hosts Manchester City to lead the section.
A win in Manchester will be a tough ask for the German outfit however, facing a side they have beaten just once in five meetings and who are unbeaten in their last 27 matches at the Etihad Stadium, winning 25 of the games in that run.
Leipzig have a poor record in England in general too, losing their last four matches in the country by an aggregate score of 20-3, and may struggle against the reigning champions.
They have also been out of form on their travels of late, losing three of their last four away matches including a 2-0 Bundesliga defeat at 16th placed Mainz earlier in the month.
City have taken maximum points from the 12 available in the group stage to date, won the reverse fixture 3-1 and beat their visitors 7-0 last season, suggesting they will have no major issues in maintaining their brilliant home record and cementing their place as section champions.
Leipzig can land a blow
However, Pep Guardiola’s side have been far from convincing in defence this term and may fail to keep a Leipzig side full of attacking talent quiet on Tuesday.
The Citizens have recorded just two clean sheets in their last 11 matches and, with those shutouts coming against struggling rivals Manchester United and Swiss side Young Boys who failed to take a shot, there is a good chance the visitors will find the net on Tuesday.
Leipzig’s last four Champions League matches have seen both teams score while themselves and City have netted in four of their five meetings, including in the reverse fixture last month.
Guardiola’s side also conceded in their away wins over relatively small sides Red Star Belgrade and Young Boys and could struggle to cope with Leipzig’s potent attack.
RB boss Marco Rose has the likes of Xavi Simons and Lois Openda, who have scored 17 goals between them already this season, ready to unleash on City’s shaky defence and they could land a blow in Manchester, even in defeat.
