Manchester United To Win To Nil

Reason for tip

Manchester United inherited the best home defence in the division last season, with only ten goals conceded in 19 league games, a record that saw them keep 11 clean sheets. They won both league meetings with Wolves to nil and they can emulate the feat in this campaign opener.

Manchester United 2-0

Reason for tip

Manchester United won this corresponding fixture 2-0 last season and with another clean sheet likely at their beloved Old Trafford, the Red Devils could repeat the trick.

Marcus Rashford To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Marcus Rashford, who scored 17 goals in 32 appearances last season, is set to spearhead the United attack with new signing Rasmus Højlund not yet fully fit and Anthony Martial sidelined. The England international, therefore, looks a standout selection to get on the scoresheet.

Manchester United vs Wolverhampton Predictions

  • Manchester United lost only one of their 19 home league games last term
  • United kept 11 clean sheets in 19 home league games last season
  • United won both of last season’s league meetings with Wolves to nil

Red Devils set for routine start

The opening weekend of the Premier League season concludes on Monday evening with Manchester United entertaining Wolves, and the Red Devils should enjoy a comfortable start to proceedings at Old Trafford.

With United having claimed their first piece of silverware under Erik ten Hag in last season’s EFL Cup, supporters will now be demanding their team to challenge fierce rivals City for Premier League supremacy.

The big-money arrivals of Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana, Atalanta forward Rasmus Hojlund and Chelsea’s Mason Mount shows intent and raises hope for United in their bid to build on last season’s third-placed finish.

Hojlund isn’t available to make his debut and Anthony Martial remains sidelined, which means Marcus Rashford is likely to get the nod spearheading United’s attack.

However, that is unlikely to hinder the hosts, who were pretty dominant at Old Trafford last season having lost only one of their 19 home league games.

That defeat came in their opening fixture against Brighton in August but from then on the Red Devils were foot perfect, beating Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City and Chelsea.

Home defence could be difficult to breach

Ten Hag’s team inherited the best home defence in the division last season, too, with only ten goals conceded in 19 league games, a record that saw them keep 11 clean sheets.

United won each of their final six home league fixtures and everything looks in place for them to maintain that winning streak against a Wolves side that have endured a turbulent summer.

Julen Lopetegui left his role as manager as recently as Tuesday and his replacement Gary O’Neil, formerly of Bournemouth, hasn’t had long to work with his new team.

There have also been a string of departures with star midfielder Ruben Neves leaving for Al-Hilal, Nathan Collins heading to Brentford and Raul Jimenez signing for Fulham.

Matheus Cunha has made his loan switch from Atletico Madrid permanent and Boubacar Traore is a defensive midfielder of promise, but there is still concern as to where their goals are going to come from.

Toothless Wolves difficult to trust

Wolves were the lowest scorers in the Premier League last season with only 31 goals in 38 games and midfield Daniel Podence was their leading scorer with six.

Away from home, Wolves scored only 12 in 19 and they could struggle to find a breakthrough at Old Trafford.

United won both of last season’s league meetings to nil, meaning the Red Devils have kept clean sheets in seven of their last nine meetings with Wolves.

It was 2-0 in this corresponding fixture in May and a repeat result appeals at the prices.

For an anytime goalscorer, Rashford, who scored 17 goals in 32 appearances last season and is set to lead the United line, looks a standout selection.
