      Motherwell to Win

      Reason for tip

Motherwell made a perfect start to the Scottish Premiership with a 2-1 win at Hibernian and even the distraction of a Conference League qualifying second leg is unlikely to stop them following up against Falkirk, who were beaten 2-0 at home by St Mirren in their opener.

      Motherwell 1-0

      Reason for tip

Falkirk failed to score in their curtain-raiser and the same fate awaits them at Fir Park. Motherwell have won ten of their last 16 games on home soil and only conceded from the penalty spot against a much stronger Hibs side than the one the Bairns will put out on Sunday.

      Motherwell vs Falkirk Predictions

      • Motherwell have lost only two of their last 16 home games, winning ten
      • Falkirk have tasted defeat in four straight Premiership matches
      • Only Livingston (75) and Kilmarnock (68) conceded more Scottish Premiership goals than the Bairns’ 62 last term

      Falkirk facing another tough test

Falkirk will be hoping the only way is up after ending the Scottish Premiership’s opening weekend bottom of the pile. However, things are likely to get worse before they get better, with Sunday’s trip to Motherwell representing a difficult test.

The Well challenged title contenders Celtic, Hearts and Rangers for a long while last term and have carried that momentum into the new campaign, opening with an impressive 2-1 win at Hibernian.

They did need an 85th-minute winner from Ibrahim Said to get over the line in Edinburgh but Easter Road is a tricky place to go and a return to their Fir Park fortress should result in another three points.

Motherwell may prove too strong at Fir Park

Ten wins in 16 home games is an immense return from Alfred Johansson’s side and it is hard to see a Falkirk outfit whose only win in five away matches has come against League Two Edinburgh City.

The Bairns’ penalty-shootout loss at third-tier Alloa on their latest away day does little to suggest they can bounce back from an opening defeat to St Mirren, making in-form Motherwell hard to oppose, even if they have one eye on the second leg of their Conference League qualifying tie with HJK Helsinki.
