Mansfield Town vs Crewe Predictions

  • Crewe have scored the most goals in League Two this season
  • Mansfield have seen the most total goals scored at home (3.29)
  • The visitors have scored and conceded in seven of their last eight

Mansfield edging closer towards safety

After winning two of their last three, the hosts head into Saturday’s game against the league leaders knowing three points could potentially be enough to avoid relegation. Mansfield have had a poor season with just nine total wins but they’ll be pulling their hair knowing they’ve been much stronger than the teams around them on paper. Having scored 48 goals, they are the league’s 11th highest scorers but it hasn’t been enough to secure the all important wins.

Mansfield certainly aren’t shy of seeing goals at home with an average of 3.29 total goals being scored per game in Nottinghamshire this season. It is the most goals any team is seeing home or away this season but it certainly hasn’t been a thing to celebrate in the majority of games for the hosts.

Crewe leading in a tightly contested title race

Despite winning just two of their last five, the Alex remain top of the league with just four points separating them and fourth place. They’ve played some exceptional football at times and remain the leagues highest scoring team with 67 goals across 37 games so far.

While Crewe still sit top of the pile, their away form has been a cause for concern having won just one of their last eight. It really has stopped them from accelerating away with the league title but has certainly made for a more exciting title race as the run in approaches.

Back the visitors to rediscover away form

Crewe were held to a 1-1 draw in the reverse leg despite dominating with 18 attempts and 70% possession. Mansfield are playing for pride more than anything else at the moment and they have more than enough games to ensure they remain in League Two next season. Crewe must act quickly if they want to keep hold of first place and are travelling to a stadium which has been kind for the visitors in terms of goals this season.

The visitors have played top defence this season having conceded an average of just 1.18 goals across the 37 games played so far. But, Mansfield have already found the net in two meetings against them this season and are averaging 1.67 goals per game at home. Like many games, I don’t think it’ll be enough for a win but a consolation effort is something worth backing.
