Melbourne Victory vs Newcastle Jets Predictions

      • Melbourne Victory have finally found a bit of form this season, winning two of their last four games and moving up to eighth place back into contention for finals series football.
      • Newcastle Jets have picked up just nine points this season and find themselves bottom of the table. They’ve not won in four games now, gaining just one point in that time.
      • Melbourne Victory have averaged just a goal a game this season, well below the level that they would expect to be scoring. They’ve also conceded too many, 15 times this season, and will need to improve to jump into the playoffs.
      • Newcastle Jets have a better goalscoring record their than opponents this weekend but have three points less but their main issues lie in defence where they have conceded an average of 2.1 goals per game this season.

Can Melbourne Victory finally make an impression this season?

Melbourne Victory have fallen well below expectations this season, winning just three games this season and finding themselves outside of the playoff places.  They seem to have found a little bit of form in recent weeks though, wining two of their last four and separating themselves from the teams at the bottom of the table. They’ve still got some work to do to get into the top six though but they know they have the talent within their ranks to get into the finals series once again.

The side have still only averaged a goal a game in their last four games though, a sum that they really need to improve on in order to challenge this season. Melbourne have only scored two or more twice this season but have conceded at the same rate on five separate occasions, both figures that have prevented them from progressing this season, leaving them 14 points behind Sydney FC in first place.

The Jets are languishing in 11th place, a win is really needed soon

Newcastle Jets haven’t been able to string anything together this season, winning just twice all season and losing three of their last four to leave them bottom of the table with just nine points. The main issue for the side has been their defensive output, with The Jets conceded 21 goals in just 10 games. They’ve conceded two or more on five occasions this season with three of those games seeing them concede four or more with the team often capitulating when they find themselves behind.

Newcastle’s two wins this season came in a row, with wins over Western United and Western Sydney. These were also the only two games where the side kept clean sheets, further highlighting their defensive frailties. They’ve scored enough goals, an average of just over one per game but they find themselves a point behind 10th placed Central Coast Mariners and another loss could see the side cut adrift at the bottom.

Will Melbourne take another step towards playoff football?

Melbourne Victory know that another win could see them jump into the playoff places for the first time this season and they’ll have plenty of motivation coming into the game. To find them anything other than odds on against the team bottom of the table looks to be a real find in terms of value and we’re backing Melbourne Victory to come away with all three points as Newcastle Jet’s woes continue to pile up.

This result looks like it could be a fairly comfortable one for Melbourne Victory too and we’re predicting that they should find the win without reply. A 2-0 scoreline looks like it gives us the most value and the two sides look like they have enough between them to warrant this prediction. Newcastle Jets look low on confidence and its hard to see them finding the net, let alone taking a result from this game.
