Mexico vs Uruguay Predictions

Uruguay return to action following the World Cup with this meeting against Mexico. The pair meet in Texas in the early hours of Saturday. The South Americans were impressive on their way to a quarter-final exit against winners France. The pair both made the last 16 of the World Cup this summer, and they’ll now be looking forward to Qatar in 2022. Uruguay got plenty of plaudits for bringing through a new side, and they will be putting that to the test against decent opposition here.

Mexico are playing just north of their border, playing in the USA just months after they were awarded the rights to the 2026 World Cup. While that’s a way down the line, preparing for that tournament is something the Mexicans will look to do. They come in to this encounter looking to experiment, as they try to find some new blood for the next campaign. Many of their top stars are sitting out in this clash, as they’re relying on a domestic-based squad to make this short trip, rather than calling back their European stars here.

Uruguay haven’t given their top stars a break, although they have left Edinson Cavani behind for this trip to the States. They have an impressive side assembled, which includes Diego Godin and Luis Suarez. Unsurprisingly, the South Americans are favourites for this clash, as they kick off preparations for the Copa America next summer. That’s likely to be the last hurrah on the international stage for many of their top stars, so delivering silverware in Brazil will be huge for the two-time world champions.

Mexico had a disappointing finish in Russia, passing up the chance to top their group by losing 3-0 to Sweden. They followed that up with a defeat against Brazil, which sent them home. Uruguay looked good, with much more guile in midfield than their sides usually have. They seem to be much more technically gifted, and we see them making life difficult for the Mexicans.

We’re going with a Uruguay win here, given that their squad looks far superior. The South Americans have won seven of their last eight matches, so we’re backing them to claim a win in this encounter. A Uruguay win is our tip here, while we’re backing them to claim a 2-0 victory.
