Millwall vs Coventry Predictions

  • Millwall and Coventry were two of the four clubs that drew the most Championship games last season.

Lions won’t scare calculating Coventry

Millwall’s formidable recent home record could come under threat from a canny Coventry side that rarely suffer defeat on their travels when the two meet at the New Den this weekend.

The Lions leapt out of the blocks with a 2-0 home win over Stoke but, without a handful of key attacking players, were never in the game when losing to Sheffield United by the same scoreline last week. Gary Rowett will have George Honeyman back from suspension for the visit of the Sky Blues and one or two others could shake off their issues to bolster the boss’ options.

Millwall have won eight of their last ten home games in the division and the ground will be as intimidating as ever for the away side on Saturday, but Coventry dealt with it well enough to get a 1-1 draw there last season and won 2-1 in south London the year before.

Only Millwall, Preston and Birmingham City drew more Championship games than the Sky Blues last term and another stalemate would seem to be the most likely outcome this weekend. Mark Robins’ men came back strongly to fully deserve their 1-1 draw at Sunderland a fortnight ago – their last league game because of pitch problems at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Viktor Gyokeres, who scored in the 1-1 draw at Millwall last season, looked sharp when he was last seen in a Coventry shirt and his goal threat should ensure the visitors stay in the game even when coming under intense pressure.

Both teams have scored in each of the last three meetings between these at the New Den and it looks a strong possibility here too with a 1-1 correct score play offering super value again. Three of Coventry’s last seven away league results have finished one apiece.
